κηρύκαινα

Pronunciation: k̥ɛ:ˈɾʏk̥ajnɒ   (keh-ROO-kai-na)

Origin: Greek

Anglicised Spelling:     kêrukaina
Variants:
kêrykissa (Ciceros)

Definition: κηρύκαινα is the feminine form of 'kêryx'.

Notes: Although 'kerykissa' is the form given by the Ciceros, this is in fact an incorrect formation of the feminine for this particular noun, and the error seems to have originated with them: Regardie, in The Golden Dawn, correctly identifies the feminine form as kerukaina (342).

Cross-References: kêryx
